Bonsai Pots

The bonsai pot is an integral part of the bonsai. No bonsai is complete without It. After all, the word “ bonsai” in both Chinese and Japanese languages means “a potted tree” Choosing the right pot for a tree is an art in its own right. Not only must the pot be the right size, but its shape, texture and colour must complement the tree as well. The overall appearance of a bonsai depends very much on the container in which it is grown. The bonsai pot is almost like the clothes that we wear.

A few basic guidelines can be used to select the right pot (these should not be taken as strict rules; aesthetic considerations tend to be highly personal)
Use a pot with a width of about 2/3 the height of the tree.
The depth of the pot should be approximately equal to the thickness of the trunk base; young trees or those with very thin trunks can be an exception to the rule.
Bonsai pots will need to be frost-proof if they are going to contain hardy outdoor plant in certain climate and should therefore be made from high- temperature fired stoneware.
